Yellowjackets

The term ‘wasps’ refers to a broad group of stinging insects so not all yellowjackets are wasps. Rather, yellowjackets are a specific type of wasp.

Yellowjackets are smaller than other front range wasps topping out at about 15mm in length. They are typically ground nesters that are known for their aggression. Entrances to their nests resemble a hole in the ground with a diameter of around an inch.

Yellowjackets can be problematic due to their aggression and ability to cause allergic reactions in certain people. Their foraging behavior attracts them to carb and sugar filled food, and thus they can often cross paths with unsuspecting people and pets in their yard.

Yellowjackets are highly active throughout the summer with their activity peaking at the end of the season / early fall.

If you suspect a yellowjacket nest or have confirmed activity on the property, we strongly recommend to not attempt to manage the situation yourself. Yellowjackets are most aggressive when defending their nest and once provoked, can continue to chase and sting you repeatedly.

Our team at Pioneer Pest Solutions is ready to professionally diagnose and treat the wasp activity on your property.
